“The Band’s” Garth Hudson with Sister Maud Hudson to Open JRLMA Hall of Fame and Launch 40th Anniversary Tour

For Immediate Release

September 12, 2016

London (Ontario) – The display cases at the former Nash Jewellers store on Dundas Street will continue to contain gems – musical gems from the Jack Richardson London Music Awards’ Hall of Fame. Everyone is invited to the gala opening Nov. 12.

Garth Hudson, co-founder of the iconic roots rock group “The Band”, and his wife, singer Sister Maud Hudson, will host a special performance to launch their world tour in celebration of the 40th anniversary of The Last Waltz – The Band’s farewell concert memorialized by Martin Scorsese in his documentary classic of the same name.

The Hudson’s will also help to officially open The Jack Richardson London Music Hall of Fame. Special guests for the gala event include JRLMA Hall of fame inductees Priscilla Wright and Denise Pelley. In honour of Garth Hudson’s contribution to music and the 40th anniversary of the Last Waltz, the Medway High School Jazz Band will perform a musical tribute to Mr. Hudson.

“Having Garth Hudson here to launch his world tour marking the 40th anniversary of the The Last Waltz and to officially open the JRLMA Hall of Fame is such an honour” said Mario Circelli founder and chair of Jack Richardson London Music Awards (JRLMA).

The awards are named for Jack Richardson – whose music industry experience covered everything from musician to advertising agency account executive to music producer to record company founder, CIRPA president and instructor of Music Industry Arts at Fanshawe College.

The Hall of Fame honours outstanding musicians from London, and past inductees include Garth Hudson, Tommy Hunter, the Lombardo family, Denise Pelley, Helix and Don and Priscilla Wright. Having a place to showcase these individuals and groups provides an opportunity to share their recognition with the community and visitors to the city.

Displayed alongside profiles and bios of the inductees will be musical treasures such as the gold records Jack Richardson was awarded for producing The Guess Who’s American Woman and Bob Seger’s Night Moves. And on display from the Big Band era will be a red blazer from Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians.

“We have some cool stuff,” said Circelli. “This city has a deep and prestigious music history and we’ve got the proof right here on display. It’s really impressive and we’re very excited.”

Mike Manuel, owner of the London Music Hall, is providing the space. “The JRLMA has done so much for the music community of London, it’s a natural fit,” said Manuel.

A silent auction will offer one-of-a-kind music memorabilia like an NHL hockey jersey autographed by Shania Twain and a Godin acoustic guitar autographed by Garth Hudson.
