What About Me The Rise of the Nihilist Spasm Band (Zev Asher, 2000)
What About Me” is an energetic celebration of Canada’s legendary experimental noise-music group The Nihilist Spasm Band. The group is seen as groundbreaking in creating experimental rock music in the mid-60’s when the airwaves were still dominated by Elvis, as well as in their creation of unique musical instruments and a non-commercial, improvisational approach. The film traces the development of the group, from its origins in 1965 as a response to ultra-conservative London, Ontario, to the tragic death of one of its founding members, artist Greg Curnoe, to their tour of Japan. Featuring interviews with Nihilist Spasm Band mega-fan Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and acclaimed Canadian artist Michael Snow.
In honour of the director’s family, all proceeds from this screening will be donated towards cancer research.

The Forest City London Music Awards is proud to support and encourage young London musicians through the Battle of the High School Bands. The Youth Award is determined through our Friday May 8th, 2020 Battle of the High School Bands competition at the London Music Hall/Rum Runners. FCLMA encourages high school bands to practice, register and bring their fans out and compete to win the annual competition.
Winner(s):
First Prize winner – two songs professionally produced, engineered from London’s compelling new studio The Watershed – VALUE approximately $2500. Songs are mastered for release on all digital outlets (iTunes and Spotify) by one of Canada’s top record mastering engineers Robert Nation at the famed EMAC Studios. EMAC, recording hit records for over 40 years.
First place winner is invited to perform & attend the Forest City London Music Awards Gala at the London Music Hall on Sunday May 10th, 2020.
First Prize winner gets their song played on a Corus Radio station in London- FM96 or Country 104.
Second Prize Winner – one song professionally produced, engineered, mixed and mastered for release on all digital outlets (iTunes and Spotify) from the famed Sugar Shack Recording Studio – VALUE approximately $600
All contestants except 1st and 2nd place receive a complimentary live recording session at the Digital Creative Arts Centre (DCAC) at the Boys and Girls Club London. The DCAC studio is a state-of-the-art facility including and recording studio, classroom and performance space.
1st place songs mastered by one of Canada’s top record mastering engineers Robert Nation at the famed EMAC Studios. EMAC, recording hit records for over 40 years.
