Music production has changed substantially over the decades. From live off the floor 2-track recordings to 24-track recording and the advent of the Digital Audio Workstation. Now the Covid-19 Pandemic has forced music makers and producers to adjust in light of restrictions. Join this panel as we discuss what it takes to make and record music in the age of Covid-19, social distancing and a new global approach to producing music.

Darius Szczepaniak

Darius is a Canadian born Mixer, Engineer, Producer, and Musician. He has been involved in music his entire life playing, writing, recording, and producing music. Having worked with many top recording artists (Sum 41, Fe Fe Dobson, Bare Naked Ladies, Black Crowes, Big Sugar, Jann Arden, and Holly Cole, to name a few), Darius has achieved many Gold and Platinum awards and featured in monthly publications of Professional Sound Magazine and Mix Magazine Online. Darius is a recognized, skilled professional throughout the industry, having earned this reputation through hard work. Darius has worked with many of the world’s top producers and engineers, including Joe Chiccarelli, Jim Scott, Michael Beinhorn, Terry Brown, Eddie Kramer, Bob Rock, and George Massenburg. Darius has had the privilege of working in many amazing studios, both locally and abroad. Getting his big start at Metalworks Studios, he quickly moved on to Comfort. As a freelance professional, Darius traveled abroad working around the globe in many amazing studios such as Jacobs Studio (UK), The Carriage House (USA), Cello Recording Studio (USA), Avatar Studios (USA).

Deni Gauthier

You can sense Deni Gauthier’s spirit when you see him perform. The subtle twinkle in his eye. The understated, almost whispering voice that sings beautiful folk and rock songs about love, life, parenthood, family, and growing old.

Deni has been amusing and enthralling audiences in North America and Europe for over 15 years. Along the way, he has recorded four studio albums, including his most recent record, the ambitious He Said/She Said. A gifted songwriter and compelling storyteller, he was described by New Canadian Music as a “major talent worthy of greater exposure.” That exposure is beginning to come. Deni has enjoyed substantial radio play on CBC and other stations, was a finalists and twice semi finalist for the prestigious International Songwriters Competition. He has performed with luminaries including Emm Gryner, Jason Collette, Barny Benthal, Linda McRae, and many others. Whether he is performing solo or with his band, Deni delivers a dynamic emotional experience. Expect laughter and brace for tears, but most all, get ready for a memorable performance by a seasoned pro.

Simon Larochette

Simon is a Producer/Engineer/Educator based in London, Ontario. He is the owner of London’s busiest studio The Sugar Shack and is also an instructor at The Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART).

Suzi Kory

In 2017, Suzi began writing and recording her first EP, Spellcasting, produced by John Angus MacDonald (The Trews). Following its release, she supported it with a string of shows in Toronto and LA at the legendary Whisky a Go-Go. Her songs received radio airplay across Canada, the United States, the Netherlands, UK, the Middle East, Brazil, and New Zealand.

The EP would also take her as far as Brazil where she would be the only Canadian artist, and one of three international acts, performing at Festival CoMA. There she caught the attention of Indie Week founder and fellow Canadian Darryl Hurs, who has since invited her numerous times to showcase during Indie Week in Toronto.

Following performances in Canada, the USA, and Brazil, Suzi found herself writing and recording in Los Angeles with producer Brent Woods (Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Taylor Hawkins). She has since released five singles, ‘The Secret Garden’ (2018), ‘Pretty Little Things’ (2019), and ’Settle of the Dust’, ‘Outlaw’, and her latest ‘Love Revolution’ (2020). The singles have collectively garnered over 150,000 streams online and over 45,000 views on YouTube and have been played worldwide on radio, in addition to Sirius XM.In the summer of 2020, Kory organized the first-ever drive-in country music festival, the ‘Love Revolution’ festival, which took place in Ontario, CA, and featured 7 local country artists. She then took the festival to Columbia, TN in the fall and plans to spread the festival to every continent worldwide.

Solomon Marley Spence – aka King Cruff

King Cruff is an emerging hip-hop artist based out of London Ontario. Raised in Kingston, Jamaica, this rapper has been bringing his fresh, hip-hop anthems to the global stage for the past year or so. He’s known for producing rich story-driven bars with fiercely intelligent lyricism. To date, he’s released a number of well-received tracks and is currently sitting on two collaborative EP’s. The rapper has toured much of the US and Canada, bringing his electrifying performances far and wide. He hopes to inspire, empower and bring comfort to others through his music as he pours all his pain and passion into every track.

Michael Marucci

Michael a student of Canadian industry luminaries Jack Richardson and Kevin Doyle, is a multiple JRLMA/FCLMA nominated producer/engineer, based in London, ON. Having graduated from the Music Industry Arts program in 2007, he now owns and operates Sonic Zen Studios, and has worked with a wide range of artists including Leanne Mayer, Carly Thomas, Karen Emeny, Tell It To Sweeney, Nimway, Yeti On Horseback, and more. A passion for music and a dedication to his craft keep him focused on working with a wide variety of artists and projects. His taste isn’t genre specific, but rather artist specific, and he thrives on the diversity and challenge of moving seamlessly between styles. Whether it’s Metal, Punk, Hip Hop, Jazz or anything in between, Michael seeks out a single constant; artists that share his passion for creating something truly unique and artistically fulfilling.
